The U-turn follows a fierce backlash

OnlyFans drops its planned porn ban… for now

OnlyFans has suspended its plans to ban sexually explicit content from October. The UK-based company tweeted on Wednesday that it would “continue to provide a home for all creators.”

The move comes less than a week after the company revealed that it was pivoting away from porn.

OnlyFans founder Tim Stokely had blamed banks for the move. He told the Financial Times that the banking sector had made it difficult for the company to pay creators.

He said the Bank of New York Mellon had “flagged and rejected” every wire connected to the company and that JP Morgan Chase was aggressive “in closing accounts of sex workers or…  any business that supports sex workers.”

The proposed ban sparked a fierce backlash from both users and creators. The U-turn may allay some of their concerns, but the announcement of a “suspension” of the plans suggests the reversal may not be permanent.
